California Seaweed 101
Learn about the history and culinary usage of seaweed in this workshop with local seaweed expert Heidi Herrmann, aka “Queen of the Tides.” You’ll learn how to differentiate and use our coastal sea vegetables like Nori, Wakame, Bladderwrack, and Kombu and taste samples both raw and in culinary applications. Heidi will discuss the health of our coastline, harvest cycles, and the nutritional benefits of seaweed. By the end of the workshop you’ll know why the Northern California coastline is so pristine, which seaweed has the highest protein content, how to select the optimal time for harvesting, and how to get an Edible Seaweed Harvest License. In other words, you’ll be ready to harvest!
