Gather. Modern Grange Events

Screening of Deeply Rooted

Celebrate the Southern foodshed and see the story of one of America’s most important seed savers in movie night in SHED’s Modern Grange. Deeply Rooted tells the story of John Coykendall, who for nearly four decades has been preserving the farm heritage—the seeds and stories—of a small farming community in Louisiana. A Tennessee native, the 74-year-old horticultural genius is a Renaissance man and a celebrity in a growing movement that places a premium on farm-to-table cuisine and locally sourced, organic, heirloom food and flavor. In this screening of Louisiana Public Media’s Deeply Rooted, you’ll see how Coykendall has become one of the nation’s most important seed savers as he locates, preserves and shares nearly extinct vegetable varieties that were once abundant in America and particularly in the South.

This event is produced in conjunction with Slow Food Sonoma County North, Camellia Brand, and with the generous support of Christina Melton, Special Projects Director of Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the producer of the film.

A taste of Camellia red beans and rice will be served to all attendees. There will be a cash bar upstairs featuring some fermented favorites from SHED.
