Just Eat It Screening & Panel on Food Recovery in Sonoma County
Food waste is a serious problem in the U.S., where it is estimated that some 40 percent of our food annually goes into the garbage stream. Meet some of the heroes in our community who are doing something about it, at a panel discussion with leaders in Sonoma County food waste prevention and a screening of Just Eat It, an award-winning film about tackling our food waste problem using business as a force for good.
- Melita Love, Farm to Pantry will talk about Northern Sonoma County food recovery and nutrition programs
- Nick Papadapolous, CropMobster will talk about web based sharing platforms and highlighting our new Emergency Food Provider Directory
- Steve Armstrong, Director of Operations & Logistics at Redwood Empire Food Bank will talk about larger scale food recovery and hunger in Sonoma County
In Just Eat It, filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of food waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on discarded food. What they find is truly shocking.
The free event is sponsored by Healdsburg SHED and the Sonoma County Food Recovery Coalition. The Event begins at 6pm with panel discussion, with a screening to follow. An RSVP is required to attend.
