​Sunday Matinee of UPside’s ‘Chrysalis’

On the first weekend of spring, UPside Dance Company will ignite the Grange in the provocative premier of Chrysalis, a contemporary story of transformation through original modern dance and inventive multi-media choreography.

Chrysalis focuses on the beautiful undoing of change and unfurls into an exciting and unexpected journey of redefinition set to the masterful music of Israeli Composer Ran Bagno.  The 12 UPside dancers will defy gravity and convention in a performance that examines the fragile balance of relationships, reinvents the term ‘beauty,’ and unveils a magnified look at ‘metamorphosis.’

This performance is choreographed by UPside Artistic Directors Kate Vazzoler & Tanya Tolmasoff, Healdsburg natives who created the company to bring contemporary dance to unconventional spaces and to cultivate a community that supports and celebrates artful culture in Sonoma County.  “In Chrysalis we draw inspiration from all aspects of nature,” the directors explain. “From a sprout unfurling from the cracking seed, to a butterfly emerging fresh wings from the cocoon. The performance will explore how this translates to our human experience. “

The performance will be 80 minutes with an intermission.
