Sushi Workshop with Sonoko Sakai

Learn everything you need to know to make seafood and vegetable sushi at home including perfect rice, flavorful fillings, and beautiful toppings with Japanese cooking instructor Sonoko Sakai. Sonoko will teach students how to make proper sushi rice and how to roll mari zushi (ball shaped sushi) and maki zushi (rolled sushi). She will also show students how to store and toast nori, as well as how to make your  pickled ginger and miso soup. The workshop will end with a sushi lunch complete with miso soup and daikon-carrot salad.

All supplies for the workshop will be included, including high-grade seafood and seasonal vegetables. Tickets include the hands-on workshop and sushi lunch, and a 10% off discount card for use in SHED’s retail store the day of the event — perfect for stocking up on Japanese cookware, pantry items, and books.

Sonoko Sakai is the founder of Common Grains, a project dedicated to providing a deeper understanding and appreciation for Japanese food and culture. Her book, Ricecraft, was recently released from Chronicle Books. Sonoko wrote about making sushi at home in Lucky Peach.
